Film and photography have allowed me to tell my stories without having to explicitly speak. This inspires me to tell other peoples stories as well because our society doesn’t always allow us to be transparent and an honest version of ourselves. Often individuals are labeled and stuck with an image that does not define who they are. I want to be able to exhibit their stories. I spent a lot of my early childhood traveling back and forth from New Delhi to New York. As a child, I found it very difficult to merge the two cultures and also to stay connected to my hometown while being so far away. Indian films and music quickly filled that gap for me. Today, I think Indian cinema influences my work the most because it has become a lot more experimental. It pushes me to be creative and bridge my two worlds together.
